About PEVC

Who We Are

Northwestern University Private Equity & Venture Capital Club is a student-run organization dedicated to those who have an interest in private equity, venture capital, and growth equity. The organization seeks to provide a fundamental education and introduction to finance and investing in the private markets. Through the Venture Capital Investment Team, Private Equity Investment Team, and PEVC Academy, students hone their skills in financial analysis, deal origination, modeling, diligence, valuation, and primary research, as well as develop a strong investor acumen. Our mission is for each and every member of PEVC to enter their careers equipped with the knowledge and skillset to be successful professionals in whatever they do. At our core, PEVC is a community of dedicated, creative, intelligent problem-solvers who all share a passion for private equity and venture capital. Our members come from all different majors and levels of experience and are what make PEVC so special. 


Opportunities

Venture Capital Investment Team - Students in this team will work in groups of 8-10 people to pitch 4 VC deals. Students will find startup companies in a diversity of industries that they believe the group should invest in. The team will aim to fundamentally understand the businesses and the industries they operate in. Students will also conduct thorough primary research. Groups will present in the middle and end of the quarter, with a final investment recommendation. The club will then decide whether to invest and add the deal to the portfolio. 



Private Equity Investment Team - Students in this team will work in groups of 8-10 people to pitch 2 PE deals. Students will find companies to buyout in a diversity of industries that they believe the group should invest in. One of the deals will be a proposed buyout of a private company, while the other will be a proposed buyout of a public company. For the investment in the private company, the team will aim to fundamentally understand the business and the industry it operates in. For the investment in the public company, the team will utilize the public financial data to quantitatively analyze and value the business. Groups will present in the middle and end of the quarter, with a final investment recommendation. The club will then decide whether to invest and add the deal to the portfolio. 



PEVC Academy - All students part of the club are part of the PEVC Academy. Members will learn vital skills in financial analysis and modeling. Students will be trained in analyzing and understanding the financial statements, valuation models (DCF, multiples method, VC valuation), and LBOs. Students will also learn how to conduct due diligence and primary research to employ in their respective investment teams. To build a strong investor acumen, students will also engage in investment projects, portfolio management exercises, and perform case studies on private equity and venture capital deals. Lastly, for students planning on recruiting for financial positions, technical practice, mock-interviews, resume reviews, and advising sessions will be provided.


Research Team - Students part of this team will write research reports, investment memos, profiles on startups and founders, industry write-ups, and/or articles following the latest news in private equity and venture capital. Students will submit at least two reports on any of the topics listed above to be distributed to fellow group mates.  

Note: Students part of the Research Team, must also be part of either the VC or PE Investment Team.

 


Speaker Outreach Team - Students in this team will lead outreach to professionals from various firms in the PEVC industry. By hearing from experts in their respective fields, our members gain invaluable insight, wisdom, and advice on navigating careers in private equity and venture capital. 

Note: Students part of the Speaker Outreach Team, must also be part of either the VC or PE Investment Team.
